I have said before in other forums, I expect anyone to wants to move here to have the means to support themselves, and their family if they have one. This includes the ability to buy or rent housing and a career - in an occupation which employers can't staff locally, or from national advertising. This already applies in Greece, Australia, New Zealand, the USA, much of the EU and in a myriad of other countries.
I expect them to be able to speak English, or Welsh fluently, and to have an overwhelming desire to FULLY adopt our culture, food, clothing, social values & 'norms'. I expect them to be desperately keen on 'becoming British', and I'd expect to see this evidenced throughout their daily lives.
I expect them to contribute to the neighborhood & the UK as a whole by paying tax, and I expect their permit to reside & work here, or their citizenship if they're naturalized to be revoked immediately if they expose the UK to risk or ridicule by any of their actions, or should they commit crime or cause antisocial issues or tensions to arise.
I expect them NOT to receive any form of benefit AT ALL, and until they've worked here & paid taxes for say, 5 years, I expect them to pay the full commercial cost of schooling, health services, legal services, etc.
I would not allow them to deliberately alienate themselves from our culture by dressing in ridiculous 'religious' clothing or hiding behind veils. This would be banned. I would not allow them to expect us to adapt our lifestyle, customs & practices in any way to make them feel at home. They can always go home if our ways offend them or if they're up to their normally high expectations.
I would make no arrangements whatsoever to help them settle, and would immediately revoke permission to stay if, after say 5 years, they had not proven they were bringing specific benefits to the country, or if they refused to integrate, or adopted culture & clothing of their own country, or chose to live separately from us.
I would steadfastly and rigorously seek out, using whatever means at my disposal, illegal immigrants, over-stayers, unemployed immigrants, criminals - and remove them from the country forcefully and without any recourse to appeal. This already happens in Australia, New Zealand, the US and Canada.
I would treat immigration applications VERY FAVORABLY from people who lived in countries with similar people & cultural backgrounds. similar social backgrounds, behavior norms & from similar 'christian-based' cultures - and they would be welcomed to join us. I know they'd fit in - and would work with us, not against us in blatant cultural isolationism.
If anyone said that this seemed harsh or racist, I'd remind them of the current state of the nation, immigrant crime, benefit abuse to the tune of many millions, and whole towns turning into asian (etc) ghettos, and the misuse / abuse of the law to make 'ethnic Brits' second class citizens in their own country.
I'd also remind them that Britain's broke. We have a national debt unimaginably big & we can't afford to pay it back. Our National Health Service is screwed - and can't even treat us, let alone bludgers who try to scam it for free. We have 3 million of our own people who are out of work, and the deepest recession since the 20's. Schools are under-funded, some are crumbling, and our universities all claim to be on the edge of bankruptcy. We need to sort our own affairs out before becoming nanny to the world and its every reject it spews out.
I'd also point out that if we chose to move to Pakistan, Bangladesh, Yemen, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, Iran, Irak, Libya, Afghanistan, Indonesia, China, Japan, plus a myriad of other countries, they'd expect ALL of the above from us, as an absolute minimum, and in many cases, we'd be stoned, jailed, immediately deported etc were we to 'get it wrong'.
Time we started thinking about the consequences of our actions!
